How well can you make cold calls if you’re an Introvert? What emotions do you have to work through when you’re in a job that requires you to be “out there” with customers, co-workers, and other contacts, yet you are an Introvert, perhaps dreading doing anything other than staying home with your head under the covers! Life Care Coach and Internet radio host of “Spiritually Juicy” Carmen McNeil Jackson shares her insights on being one of the “Quiet Ones” in the workplace.
The Life Stream of Introverts
Carmen shares how to identify an Introvert (who make up about 25% of our population), some of the perceived disadvantages and how to locate yourself on an energy continuum. “Quietness,” she says, “makes people uncomfortable.”
Mind Freezes and Spiritual Juiciness
Introverts need time to digest and ruminate, causing them to experience “mind freeze” if called upon to give immediate feedback. Carmen tells us Introverts make wonderful listeners, need minimal supervision and have high levels of concentration. She shares three things Introverts can do to help others work more easily and effectively with them, and offers a caution about too much reliance on e-mail!
Extroverts Are Our Cultural Ideal–How Do We Work with That?
Introverts can make it easier for others to work with them by taking specific steps, such as making a point to share successes, writing an article and receiving compliments gracefully. This way they won’t be overlooked, either! Listen to Carmen’s list of what Extroverts who work in business can do to form a successful team with introverted co-workers. Carmen points to herself to illustrate how Introverts DO talk when the topic they’re discussing is of great interest to them!
