Scared Poopless: The Straight Scoop on Dog Care

October 19th, 2006

Jan Rasmussen was doing all the right things for her dogs–she thought. Then Jiggy got deathly ill. As she researched and learned to save him, she found a pet food and pet care industry motivated by money that was not helping pet owners adequately. Angered, she decided to research and write. She talks with us about car safety, puppy mills, B.A.R.F., and how to prepare your pet for disasters in this wide-ranging program concerning the 70 million pet dogs currently in the U.S.

Segment 1: Everyone Wants a Safe, Healthy and Happy Dog
Jan tells the story of Jiggy, whose illness drew her attention to the fact that people are feeding their pet dogs food that is not right for their bodies, giving them vet-recommended vaccinations that are unnecessary and putting their beloved pets at risk in vehicles when they take them out for a drive. Jan offers several practical suggestions that can help pet owners keep their dogs safer, healthier and give opportunity for longer lives.

Segment 2: Doggie Emotions–and Ours, Too!
What does a dog go through when left alone at home for long hours? Find out what it means to feed your dog B.A.R.F., how to relieve their stress, and just how connected we are to our dogs, and they to us. If you don’t know why it’s important to cook the veggies you feed your dog, you’ll want to listen to this segment.

Segment 3: Surviving Disasters and Emergencies
Do you know what to keep in your glove compartment, or what type of emergency supplies to keep, in case you and your dog are in an accident or a natural disaster? A few simple advance preparations can make the difference between on-going trauma and stress, or a safe and orderly experience for your beloved pet. Learn what Chiclet T. Dog, Jan’s co-author, would say about whether people can get “too attached” to their dogs!
